The AT Radar barriers are based on a pair of radars setting up a safe/alarm zones. The radar barriers are currently used in a range of applications including perimeter security, safe working zones around machinery, train platform security and many other situations where there shouldn't be activity.
Distances of a few metres up to distances of several hundred metres (e.g. for monitoring grounds in the outer area) can be covered by the range of products. The radar units are easy and quick to install to set up a lightweight compound security.
The Radar Barrier consists of a pair of AT Radars communicating with each other via a fixed or wireless link, installed at a distance between 10 and 70 metres, but can be networked to cover large distances. When activated, each Radar detects the other units signal, at which point the open collector output is switched on and the “barrier” instigated. Whenever the "barrier" is broken by signal being interrupted by the obstacle, the open collector output is switched off and the system generates an alert.
Using Radar for this type of application offers you the main advantage that the system is insensitive to weather conditions (such as rain, snow, fog...), where a camera systems effectiveness might be reduced. It can be configured to only detect major obstacles such as humans, cars, poles on vessels etc. whilst smaller animals such as like flying birds etc can be ignored. There are two sets of Radar pairs (BAR10-A + BAR10-B; BAR10-C + BAR10-D) with each pair adjusted to specific frequencies, so that two Radar Barriers can be installed without interfering with each other. The system is working in the 24GHz band. The antenna beam is 11 x11 (+/-5,5 x +/- 5,5 deg).
